Your energy bills can be lowered if you choose the right kind of siding. It will depend on how the siding is able to keep the cold or warm air inside your home. The siding of your home is that first thing that people see. If your siding is well installed and properly maintained, then the value of your home can increase. Wooden siding is one of the commons options to take. With wood, you get natural beauty you cannot find in other materials. The best aesthetics can be given by wooden siding. The different types of wood siding include batten siding, hardboard lap siding, channel siding, split log siding, tongue and groove siding and others. If you want to give your wood siding a great finish, then you can either stain or paint it. There is also a downside to using wood siding, though. Regular maintenance is very important with wood siding. One problem that wood encounters is rotting and deteriorating. Moss, mildew and algae can grow on it. It can easily be damaged by hail and storms. Wooden sidings can make your house beautiful and you should use this if your don’t mind doing regular maintenance work on it.
The most common and inexpensive siding is vinyl siding. This type of siding can easily be maintained and will not rot like wood. This type of siding does not get attacked by termites or insects. Painted vinyl siding does not crack or peel, and chipping is not a problem with it. Cleaning vinyl siding is easy and it does not really require much maintenance. Hail and storm in not a problem although when it gets damaged, it is difficult to repair so it needs to be replaced. Vinyl siding does not help conserve energy so it will not help save on your energy bills. It can trap moisture that can cause water damage. Vinyl is not really environmentally safe because if it burns, it releases toxic fumes. Despite this, it is still the most common and the most inespensive siding.
If you choose steel siding then you have a thick and durable one. It is also resistant to fire and water. If you have steel siding, you have something that does not burn and does not get dented. It does not require much miantenance. However, steel is more expensive that the rest. It is double the price of vinyl and difficult to work with.
